Women’s Golf in Fourth After Round 1 of Tar Heel Invitational

Cottrell and Barrios both led the team with a 1-over-71 in the first round
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The Louisville women's golf team is sitting in fourth place after the first round of the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational Friday afternoon from the Finley Golf Club. The Cardinals shot 7-over-par 287 as a team on Friday, their lowest team round in a tournament this season.
Millie Cottrell and Beatriz Barrios both paced the Cards in the first round with a team-best 1-over-par 71. Cottrell had a team-best two birdies for the afternoon while Barrios had one during her round. The pair are tied for 12th overall heading into the second round.
One stroke behind the duo is Thienna Huynh, who carded a 2-over-par 72 for the round. She is tied for 19th overall and had one birdie for the afternoon.
Veronika Exposito is one stroke behind Huynh after a 3-over-par-73. She is tied for 25th overall heading into the second round.
Carmen Griffiths and Gabbi Bentancourt rounded out the Cardinals in action on Friday. Griffiths is tied for 41st overall after a 5-over-par 75 in the first round. Bentancourt is competing as an individual this weekend and is tied for 85th overall after a 12-over-par 82 for the first round.
