January 24, 2024 | Women's Basketball
Four of the next five games will be at home for the Cards
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The No. 18/16 Louisville women's basketball team (16-3, 5-1 ACC) is returning to the friendly confines of the KFC Yum! Center as they are set to open a three-game homestand this week. Kicking off the homestand will be a matchup with Boston College (11-9, 3-4 ACC) on Thursday, January 25 at 7 p.m. ET. It will be the first three straight home games and four of the next five games will be at home for the Cards.
Thursday's game with Boston College is Healthcare Heroes night at the KFC Yum! Center. As a thank you to our frontline workers, first responders, and those working in healthcare, discounted $5 tickets are available for purchase.
The Cardinals are back at home where they have had a lot of success this season. Louisville is 9-0 at home this year and are 2-0 at home in conference play. Since the Cards joined the ACC in 2014-15, they are 54-0 at home against unranked ACC opponents. Both of their conference home wins this season have come against unranked foes (Duke, 61-44; Wake Forest, 83-62).
Under the 17-year tenure of head coach Jeff Walz, the Cardinals have been able to bounce back quickly following a loss. The Cardinals are 87-24 all-time under Walz following a loss and they are even better following a loss against ACC opponents. Louisville is 21-3 all-time following a loss during conference play and have only lost two-straight ACC games three times over the past 10 seasons.
Earlier this afternoon, Kiki Jefferson was named to the Cheryl Miller Award Top 10 list, which recognizes the top small forwards in women's NCAA Division I college basketball. Jefferson leads the Cardinals with 12.2 points per game, is second on the team with 2.5 assists and 1.3 steals per game and is third in rebounding with 4.1 per game. She has scored in double figures 13 times and tallied eight or more points in 18 of 19 games this year. She has been a very efficient scorer and has shot 50 percent or better from the floor 12 times this year. Jefferson is one of the best free throw shooters in the country at 89.7 percent (61-for-68), a mark that is second in the ACC and 18th nationally.
Olivia Cochran has also been playing at a high level for the Cardinals this season. She leads the team in rebounding (5.9), steals (1.5) and blocks (0.6) while she is second in scoring (11.8) and field goal percentage (.538).
