No. 13/12 Cardinals End Road Swing at No. 23/24 North Carolina

Louisville brings a six-game winning streak into the Top-25 matchup
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The No. 13/12 Louisville women's basketball team (16-2, 5-0 ACC) is finishing off a two-game road week and a top-25 opponent awaits it in Chapel Hill. The Cardinals are set to take on the No. 23/24 North Carolina Tar Heels (13-5, 5-1 ACC) on Sunday, January 20th. The Cardinals are riding a six-game winning streak into Sunday's matchup with the Tar Heels. The two teams are set to square off at 2 p.m. ET and the matchup will be aired nationally on the ACC Network.
The No. 23/24 Tar Heels are the fifth ranked opponent the Cardinals will face this season. Louisville is 3-1 against ranked opponents this season and this will be the fourth matchup against a ranked opponent that will take place on the road. The Cardinals defeated then No. 19/20 Ole Miss in Oxford in November, dropped a road matchup with then No. 17/18 UConn in December and Louisville defeated RV/23 Miami on New Year's Eve in the ACC opener. In the road win over the Hurricanes, the Cardinals snapped a 17-game home winning streak for Miami that dated back to December of 2022.
Sunday's matchup between the Tar Heels and Cardinals will pair two of the better scoring defenses in the ACC. Louisville ranks second in the conference and holds opponents to 58.4 points per game. North Carolina ranks third in the league and has held opponents to 58.6 points per game. The Tar Heels are second in the ACC in field goal percentage defense, limiting their opponents to 36.1 percent shooting per game. The Cardinals are third in the ACC in field goal percentage as they shoot 46.3 percent from the floor per game. North Carolina has been good at limiting turnovers this season as they rank third in the ACC with 12.2 turnovers per game. Louisville ranks third in the ACC in turnovers forced with 21.1 per game this year.
So far this season, Louisville is 5-1 on the road and 3-0 on the road in conference play. The Cardinals are the only team remaining in the league to be undefeated on the road against ACC opponents. Louisville is coming off an 81-64 road win over Clemson this past Thursday.
In the road win over the Tigers, Jayda Curry led the Cards in scoring for the second-straight game as she tied a season high with 19 points and three three-pointers while setting a season high with eight made field goals. Kiki Jefferson scored in double figures for the 12th time in her last 13 games with 17 points and she tied a career high with a team-best eight assists. The eight assists were the most by a Louisville player in a game this season. Olivia Cochran continued her scoring stretch as she tallied 12 points in the win, her 10th-straight game scoring in double figures.

Last Meeting (Feb. 5, 2023) - The University of Louisville women's basketball team earned its second ranked win of the season with a 62-55 win over #11/14 North Carolina Sunday afternoon at the KFC Yum! Center. After a low-scoring first half, the Cardinals (17-8, 8-4) overcame a nine-point deficit in the third quarter and outscored the Tar Heels (17-6, 8-4) 39-23 over the final 18 minutes of the game. Chrislyn Carr led the Cardinals with 17 points on the afternoon. Carr tied a season high with five three pointers, the third time this season she has had five in a game. Coming off her first career start and career-best 18 points, Nyla Harris set a career high with 12 rebounds in the win. It is the most rebounds by a Louisville freshman since Olivia Cochran had 15 against Northwestern in the NCAA Tournament in 2021. Mykasa Robinson had another big impact game as she tied a season high with eight rebounds, had five points, four assists and three steals. It is the seventh game this season she has had three or more steals.
