
Cards Set for a Pair of Preseason Scrimmages

Cards will play host to Bellarmine Friday at 2 p.m. and hit the road for Ohio University for a Sunday matchup
After nearly a week of practice, the University of Louisville field hockey team will continue its preseason preparation with a pair of scrimmages this weekend. The Cards will play host to Bellarmine in a preseason scrimmage on Friday at 2 p.m. at Trager Stadium and will hit the road for Athens, Ohio to face Ohio University Sunday at noon.

Following this weekend, UofL will officially open the season on Aug. 25 when Northeastern visits Trager Stadium for a 5 p.m. matchup. Admission is free to all home games.

Bellarmine University | Friday, 2 p.m., Trager Stadium; Admission is free
Bellarmine is entering its fourth season competing at the NCAA Division I level. Last year the Knights tallied four wins, including two in the Mid-American Conference. In 2021
• Head coach Devanny Boisvert is entering her fifth season at the helm and was named the MAC Coach of the Year in 2021. Louisville field hockey fans will recognize Bellarmine assistant coach Erin Schneidtmiller, who played for the Cardinals from 2010-13 and served as an assistant coach for the Cardinals from 2019-21.

Ohio University | Sunday, 12 p.m., Pruitt Field
Ohio posted an 8-9 record and a 3-4 mark in Mid-American Conference play. Among the Bobcats' leading returners are all-MAC second team honoree Katelyn Whittle and All-MAC freshman team selection Anouk Plaehn.
• Head coach Ali Johnstone is in her sixth season at the helm. Â

• In 2022, Louisville registered a 12-8 overall record and earned its fourth-straight NCAA tournament bid.
• The Cardinals were ranked No. 12 in the final NFHCA Coaches Poll after spending the entire season in the top 15 and reaching as high as No. 4 in the 2022 campaign.
• Louisville returns 17 letterwinners from last year's team including two-time NFHCA All-Americans Julie Kouijzer and Aimee Plumb along with fellow NFHCA All-West Region honoree Emilia Kaczmarczyk. The Cardinals will also welcome 10 newcomers including eight freshmen and two graduate transfers.
• Julie Kouijzer, Emilia Kaczmarczyk, India Reed Minna Tremonti will serve as team co-captains.
• Justine Sowry is entering her 13th season as head coach. She has guided the Cardinals to three conference titles, a pair of runner-up finishes in the ACC tournament and eight NCAA tournament appearances, advancing to the semifinals for the first time in program history in 2020.
