Cards Take Down Notre Dame 4-0

Cards wrap up the ACC regular season with a 4-0 win over Notre Dame
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The No. 32-ranked University of Louisville men's tennis team defeated No. 57 Notre Dame 4-0 Friday evening at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center in its final Atlantic Coast Conference match of the season. Â

The Cardinals improve to 15-9 on the season with the win, earning their fifth straight league win to move to 6-6 in conference play.  Notre Dame drops to 13-13 (3-9 ACC).

Louisville doubles wins on courts one and three. The duo of Etienne Donnet and Fabien Salle defeated Connor Fu and Jean-Marc Malkowski 6-3 at the No. 1 spot. The Irish took court 2 as Sebastian Dominko and Matthew Haplin beat David Mizrahi and Alex Wesbrooks 6-3. The doubles point came down to court 3 as Natan Rodrigues and Sergio Hernandez took down Evan Lee and Yu Zhang 6-4 to give UofL the match's early 1-0 lead.

The Cards came out hot in singles action three courts decided in straight sets. No. 81-ranked Natan Rodrigues defeated Matthew Che 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot to stretch the lead to 2-0 for the Cardinals.Â

Louisville continued to roll as No. 50-ranked Fabien Salle outlasted Jean-Marc Malkowski 6-1, 7-6(7-1) on court 3 to give the Cards a 3-0 lead.

No. 28-ranked Etienne Donnet clinched the match for the Cards, defeating Connor Fu 7-5, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot.

"Notre Dame is always a rivalry match and today we came out strong and the guys got the job done," said UofL head coach Rodrigo da Silva. "I was telling the guys we had a little hiccup in the middle of the season, with some losses, but we came back and won five ACC matches in a row and we got a little momentum going. It feels nice to play at home and get a win in our last ACC match this season."

Louisville will wrap up the regular season Sunday afternoon as No. 28 Middle Tennessee visits the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center at 3:30 p.m. Prior to the match, the Cardinals will honor graduating seniors Sergio Hernandez, David Mizrahi, Fabien Salle and Alex Wesbrooks. Â Â Â
