LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville head coach men's golf coach Ryan Blagg picked up his first tournament win in the final regular-season match as the Cardinals went wire-to-wire at the Aggie Invitational Tuesday at the Traditions Golf Course.
Junior Max Kennedy also took home medalist honors by holding off teammate Jiri Zuska and LSU's Luke Haskew, who each were second at 6-under-par.
Kennedy shot a 7-under-par for the program's first individual tournament win since John Murphy won a pair of events during the 2019-20 campaign. Kennedy shot 71-66-72=209 over the two days to continue his strong season. The junior entered the event with a 71.15 stroke average, which sits tops on the squad.
Kennedy, who has finished in the top 10 for the fifth-straight tournament, recorded 15 birdies over the 54 holes of the tournament.
Zuska posted his best finish of the season by tying for second place. Opening play by shooting 3-over-par, Zuska played the next two rounds at 9-under-par. He shot 65 during the second round of action on Monday, which was tied for the best round this season.
Collectively, the victory is the first for the Cardinals since winning the Bearcat Invitational during the 2019-20 season. Louisville held off host Texas A&M by shooting a 12-over-par over the two-day event. The Cards won by three strokes despite shooting an 8-over-par 296. For the two days, the Cardinals shot 281-275-296=852.
I'm really proud of the guys," Blagg said. "This was a big win for us. They played very disciplined golf this week and beat a great field as well as a top 15 team on their home course. Max continues to show why he is great. This win was inevitable for him. He outworks his opponents and does everything the right way. We are going to celebrate today and then start getting ready for the conference championship."
Louisville went into the third round with an 11-shot lead after opening play Monday by carding a two-round total of 20-under-par.
