No. 26 Louisville defeats No. 51 Virginia Tech 6-1
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The 26th-ranked University of Louisville men's tennis team defeated No. 51 Virginia Tech 6-1 in an Atlantic Coast Conference match Sunday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

"I am proud of how the guys competed," said UofL head coach Rodrigo da Silva. "They have been playing good tennis, but not being rewarded. We are happy with the win today, but it is time to go back to work"

With the win, the Cardinals improve to 10-5 and 1-2 in ACC play. Louisville will continue ACC play with a pair of road matches at No. 23 Florida State and No. 60 Miami next weekend.

Louisville took the doubles point to start the match with the Cardinals' 28th-ranked duo of Fabien Salle and Natan Rodrigues upending No. 13 Jordan Chrysostom and Ryan Fishback 6-2 on court one to give Louisville the early advantage. Virginia Tech evened the doubles tally with a 6-4 win over David Mizrahi and Alex Wesbrooks at No. 2. The point was determined at the three-spot where Etienne Donnet and Sergio Hernandez bested Matt Harper and Frank Thompson 6-4.

In singles, the Cards took a 2-0 lead with No. 50 Fabien Salle's 6-2, 6-3 win over Manuel Goncalves at No. 3. Virginia Tech countered at the No. 1 spot when No. 70 Ryan Fishback beat No. 60 Natan Rodrigues 6-1, 6-1 to make the score 2-1.

Louisville earned wins on the remaining courts to finish the match. Sergio Hernandez cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Hugo Maia at No. 5. Andre' Steinbach clinched the match at No. 6 when he rebounded from a 6-1 first set loss to take the next sets 6-2, 6-4. At the two-spot, No. 36 Donnet beat Ariza 7-8(3), 6-4. Mizrahi closed out the match with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 victory over Chrysostom at No. 4.
