Cards win doubles

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The No. 26-ranked University of Louisville's men's tennis team fell 4-2 to No. 13 Virginia Friday evening at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center

The Cardinals came out hot in doubles as the duo of Etienne Donnet and Sergio Hernandez defeated Alexander Kiefer and Jeffrey von der Schulenburg 6-2 on court 3. Louisville managed to clinch the doubles point on the heels of the No. 28-ranked pair Fabien Salle and Natan Rodrigues who beat Chris Rodesch and William Woodall 6-4 at the No. 1 spot.

In singles action, the Cavaliers fought back to tie the match as Alexander Kiefer defeated Sergio Hernandez 6-0, 6-3 on court 6.

Virginia went on to take the lead after Jeffrey von der Schulenburg defeated No. 50 Fabien Salle 7-5, 6-4 at the No. 3 spot. The Cavaliers extended their lead after No. 111 ranked Ryan Goetz beat Matthew Fung 6-4, 6-2 on court 4.

Louisville's No. 36-ranked Etienne Donnet had a strong singles performance as he defeated No. 37 Inaki Montes-de la Torre 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 2 spot to secure the lone singles point for the Cardinals.

Virginia clinched the match as Mans Dahlberg halted David Mizrahi's comeback efforts winning 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 at the No. 5 spot.

The Cardinals will wrap up their five-match homestand on Sunday as they will look to bounce back against No. 51-ranked Virginia Tech. Action will start at noon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
