Cardinals Travel for Midweek Battle with Virginia
February 08, 2023 | Women's Basketball
This will be the first matchup between the two schools since the 2019-20 season
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Louisville women's basketball team is heading down the final stretch of the regular season and they are on the road for a midweek matchup. Louisville is traveling to Charlottesville to take on Virginia on Thursday. The matchup between the Cardinals and Cavaliers will start at 7 p.m. ET and it will be streamed on ACCNX.
The Cardinals are coming off a 62-55 home win over #11/14 North Carolina this past week. Defense reigned supreme in the game as the Cards limited North Carolina to 1-for-12 shooting from three and held the Tar Heels to just three assists. The one three-pointer and .083 shooting percentage from behind the arc were season-low marks for the Tar Heels and the three assists were also the fewest in a game this season. It was the first time this season North Carolina had lost a game after having the lead at halftime (11-1).
Chrislyn Carr and Hailey Van Lith led the Cardinals with 17 points each in the win over the Tar Heels. Carr tied a season-high with five made threes and she was 5-for-9 from behind the arc. It was the third time she has hit five threes in a game this season and she leads the ACC and is ranked 14th nationally with 66 threes on the year. She is shooting .482 percent from three, a mark that leads the league and is fourth nationally.
Freshman Nyla Harris continues to thrive in her new starting role. She led the Cards with 12 rebounds in the win over the Tar Heels in her second-career start. The 12 rebounds are tied for the second-most by an ACC freshman this season. The 12 rebounds are also the most by a Cardinal freshman since 2021 when Olivia Cochran had 15 in the NCAA Tournament against Northwestern.
