UofL wins 7-0 as ACC slate looms ahead
LOUISVILLE, Ky. --Â The No. 23-ranked University of Louisville men's tennis team defeated Belmont 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

After a tightly-contested doubles points, the Cards rolled through the singles and now post a 9-2 record on the season as they prepare for ACC play. The No. 74-ranked Bruins fall to 5-2.Â

"It has been a great start to our season," said UofL head coach Rodrigo da Silva. "We are playing really well but now is the beginning of the ACC schedule which will be a grind. No easy days there. But it feels great to have a good start and now we keep the momentum going as Duke and North Carolina come to us next weekend. It is always exciting for those two teams to come to our house. We have a complete team and I am proud of the way the guys are handling everything right now." Â

Louisville clinched the doubles point to give the Cardinals an early lead to start the match. The duo of Alex Wesbrooks and Matthew Fung bested Jack Randall and Alfred Wallin 6-3 on court two to remain unbeaten in doubles play. Belmont managed to fight back as Tomas Luis and Ian Cruz defeated Will Mayhew and David Mizrahi 6-3 at the No. 3 spot. Louisville clinched the doubles point on the backs of its 14th-ranked pair Fabien Salle and Natan Rodrigues as they defeated Marko Ilic and Riccardo Trione 7-5 at No. 1.

In singles action, Louisville's 49th-ranked Fabien Salle beat Ian Cruz 6-2, 6-0 on court three to extend the lead for the Cardinals. Andre Steinbach followed with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Gabriel Sardo at the No. 5 spot.  Â

The Cardinals continued to roll as David Mizrahi defeated Jack Randall 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 6 spot.Â

No. 24-ranked Etienne Donnet remains unbeaten in singles play, improving to 10-0 on the season after a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Alfred Wallin on court two.Â

On court four Sergio Hernandez battled back to defeat Riccardo Trione 3-6, 6-2, 10-8 to improve to 9-1 in singles matches on the season.Â

No. 44 Natan Rodrigues completed the sweep for the Cards as he defeated Marko Illic 6-4, 6-4 on court one.Â

The Cardinals will return to action on March 3rd when No. 22 Duke visits the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center to open ACC play.Â
