Cardinals have eight score in double figures for first time in program history
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 19/15 University of Louisville women's basketball team defeated Bellarmine, 111-33 to move to 3-0 on the season. Tonight's 78-point win marks the largest margin of victory under head coach Jeff Walz.
Highlighted by Sydney Taylor's 15-point performance, the Cardinals had eight double-figure scoring efforts this evening for the first time in program history. Taylor shot 5-of-8 from the field and 2-of-4 from beyond the arc while tallying a team-high four assists and two steals.
Nyla Harris was a close second in scoring with 14 points on a perfect 5-of-5 shooting from the field and 4-of-4 shooting from the line. Harris added three rebounds and a steal.
Alexia Mobley scored a career-high 12 points and was perfect from the field and the free throw line. The sophomore pulled down four rebounds and contributed two steals.
Freshman Elif Istanbulluoglu notched her first career double-double with 10 points and a team-high 12 rebounds. It was the first double-double by a freshman since Olivia Cochran tallied 13 points and 15 rebounds against Northwestern in the NCAA Tournament in 2021.
After forcing 18 turnovers in the first half alone, Louisville went into the locker room up 48-9. Bellarmine's nine first half points is the third-fewest allowed in a first half in program history. This is the second-straight year they have allowed single-digit points to Bellarmine in the first half. Last season, the Cardinals tied the program record with eight points allowed in the first half.
Louisville dominated for a majority of the contest by going on several double digit scoring runs throughout the game. With tonight's victory over the Knights, Louisville has won 35-straight games when allowing 59 points or less in a game dating back to the 2020-21 season.
The Cards will finish their three-game homestand on Sunday, Nov. 19, against Bucknell. The game tips off at 4 p.m. ET and will be aired on the ACC Network.
