October 26, 2023 | Men's Soccer
Friday’s kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's soccer team wraps up regular season play on Friday night against No. 3 Wake Forest at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7p.m. ET and will be televised on ACC Network Extra.
ABOUT THE CARDINALS
Louisville will look to get back in the win column after a 2-0 loss at No. 11 North Carolina on Sunday. The Cardinals are now 2-1-1 against ranked opponents this season.
WHAT'S AT STAKE?
Seeding in ACC Championship is on the line on Friday night. The Cardinals enter the match tied for ninth overall in the ACC. Louisville still has an opportunity to host a first round match next Wednesday if it can get into the top eight.
SERIES HISTORY
Louisville is 4-12-0 against Wake Forest in 16 all-time meetings. The two teams have traded 3-0 victories in the last two matchups, with the Cards winning by that margin two seasons ago in Louisville. Josh Jones scored his first collegiate goal in the victory.
BARKER JOHN'S BLISTERING SCORING RUN CONTINUES
The early portion of the 2023 season saw newcomer Gage Guerra leading the way offensively with six goals in the first five matches. However, the junior forward has not been on the pitch since subbing off in the 64th minute at Evansville due to injury.
In the eight-plus matches that have followed, Damien Barker John has taken over the top goal scoring role, finding the back of the net eight times during that span after two more goals at Oakland.
Barker John now has three multi-goal matches on the season, joining Simon Bird (2001) and Aboubacar Camara (2021) as the only Louisville players with three multi-goal efforts in a single season since at least 2001. The sophomore is just two goals shy of becoming the 12th player in program history to tally double-digit goals.
