Two doubles pairs and Etienne Donnet advance at Ohio Valley ITA Regionals
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Louisville men's tennis has advanced two doubles pairs and a singles player to the Rounds of 16 at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional in Chattanooga. The tournament faced its second day of rain delays on Friday.
Etienne Donnet and Natan Rodrigues continued their hot streak as a doubles pair with a convincing 8-3 win over a duo from Tennessee Tech. Freshmen Kosuke Nakanishi and Miguel Avendaño defeated their Chattanooga opponent with the same score. Both pairs advance to the Round of 16 beginning at 10 a.m. ET.
The Cardinals totaled five singles wins on the day as Donnet picked up two while Nakanishi, Evan Duggal and Andre Steinbach all added one of their own.
Donnet defeated both of his opponents in straight sets and is on to the Round of 16 on Saturday with a noon match against Marcel Kamrowski of Middle Tennessee.
Duggal won his Round of 64 match against Mitchell Deames of Vanderbilt in straight sets before falling to an opponent from Memphis. Nakanishi bested his Tennessee opponent in three, battling back to win the third 6-1. He then fell to a player from Purdue.
Steinbach had a long battle this afternoon, coming out victorious against Cortland Grove of Chattanooga. He played a tiebreaker in the first and second sets before winning 6-2 in the third. He then lost to Dimosthenis Taramonlis of Middle Tennessee.
Correction from Thursday's results: Russell Lokko defeated Steven Paz (IUPUI) 6-3, 6-2.
