Solid Play Leads Cardinals Through First Day of ITA Regionals

Louisville wins nine of 13 matches on opening day of Ohio Valley Championships

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – UofL men's tennis logged nine total wins on the first day of the ITA Regional Ohio Valley Championships on Thursday. An early morning rain delay caused the field to only get through one round of doubles and one round of singles.

Etienne Donnet and Natan Rodrigues won their doubles match 8-7 with a 7-3 victory in the tiebreaker while freshmen Kosuke Nakanishi and Miguel Avendaño won handily 8-3. The Cardinals' doubles teams split the day as Louisville's other two doubles pairs fell 8-5 and 8-4.

In the singles matchups, seven of the nine Cardinals who hit the court were victorious, with six of those wins in straight sets. Donnet, Rodrigues, Nakanishi, Avendaño, Will Mayew and Andre Steinbach all won their opening round matches. All seven are moving on to the round of 64 that will start play on Friday morning following the doubles round of 32.
