Cards Gear Up for a Pair of Preseason Scrimmages

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville field hockey team is set for a pair of preseason scrimmages this weekend. On Friday, the Cardinals will travel to Oxford, Ohio to face Miami (Ohio) and return to Trager Stadium to host Bellarmine Sunday at 1 p.m. Admission is free to Sunday's game.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:
at Miami (Ohio) - Friday, 1 p.m. - Live Scoring
• Miami was recently named the preseason favorite to win the Mid-American Conference after winning its fifth-straight title last season. The RedHawks are coming off a banner year, finishing the regular season with a 12-11 overall record and a 6-1 record in conference play. Miami hosted its first-ever NCAA Tournament contest in 2021 as well and defeated Maine in a play-in game. The RedHawks returners are led by MAC Offensive Player of the Year Claudia Negrete Garcia who registered a conference-best 18 goals last season.
• Head coach Iñako Puzo is in his 10^th season at the helm. The winningest coach in program history has led the RedHawks to five MAC titles and seven NCAA tournament appearances.

vs. Bellarmine - Sunday, 1 p.m. - Live Scoring
• Bellarmine picked up four wins in 2021, its first official season in the Mid-American Conference and second in Division I play. Amber Hofenk Jerembo returns to the team after earning All-MAC second team honors last season.
• Devanny Boisvert enters her fourth season at the helm and was named the 2021 MAC Coach of the Year.

The Cardinals will open the 2022 season next weekend when they travel to University Park, Pa. to take on Bucknell on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Penn State on Sunday at 12 p.m.

LOUISVILLE NOTES:
• Louisville returns 13 letterwinners and seven starters from last year's team including NFHCA All-America selections Julie Kouijzer and Aimee Plumb along with fellow All-ACC honoree Katie Schneider. The Cards also welcome 10 newcomers to the 2022 roster.
• UofL returns four of its top scorers from last year in Katie Schneider, Aimee Plumb, Julie Kouijzer and Mattie Tabor. Schneider led the team with nine goals, followed by Plumb (seven), Tabor (six) and Kouijzer (five). The four of them combined for 27 of Louisville's 47 goals last season.
• Kouijzer led the team with eight assists.
• The Cardinals finished the 2021 season with a 16-4 overall record, matching a school record for wins while making the program's 10^th NCAA tournament appearance. Additionally, Louisville won the ACC regular season title for the second straight year after compiling a program-best 6-0 record in league play. The Cards spent the 2021 entire season ranked among the National Field Hockey Coaches' Association (NFHCA) Top 10, reaching as high as No. 3 and finished the year at No. 6.
• Head coach Justine Sowry is entering her 12^th season at the helm. The 2021 ACC Coach of the Year has guided the Cardinals to three conference titles, including the 2021 regular season championship and 2020 ACC fall regular season crown as well as a pair of runner-up finishes in the ACC tournament.
