LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville men's soccer student-athlete Josh Jones was named the 2022 TopDrawerSoccer.com NPSL Young Player of the Season announced by the National Premier Soccer League.
Jones spent the summer with Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals, finishing the season with four goals and five assists. The rising sophomore put home a game-winner in a 2-1 victory over Torch FC on May 28.
"It's a great honor to be named this award from TopDrawerSoccer.com," Jones said. "I can't thank everyone at the Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals enough for their support this summer. This past season, I've been fortunate enough to play alongside some of the best players in the region in an environment that pushes you to become better. The coaching staff and everybody else involved at this club deserves to also be recognized for their effort in making our inaugural NPSL season a success."
In addition to the NPSL Young Player of the Season honors, Jones also garnered NPSL Conference XI, NPSL Region XI and NPSL National XI laurels for his play.
"This is a tremendous recognition for Josh," University of Louisville Head Coach John Michael Hayden said. "He has continued to improve throughout his time with us, and I'm very excited for his future."
Jones played in all 18 matches during his freshman season at Louisville, drawing 16 starts in the back line. He registered two goals and an assist in more than 1,400 minutes of action.
Jones and the Cardinals wrap up their preseason on Friday with a home exhibition against Indiana. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
