
Cards Fall Short to Oklahoma in NCAA First Round

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The 23rd-ranked University of Louisville men's tennis team fell 4-2 to No. 38 Oklahoma in the first round of the NCAA Men's Tennis Championship on Friday afternoon at the Michigan Varsity Tennis Center.
Louisville finishes its season at 19-9 after making its first NCAA tournament appearance since 2017.
Etienne Donnet and Natan Rodrigues defeated Welsh Hotard and Justin Schlageter 6-4 at the No. 2 spot to give the Cardinals early momentum in doubles. Oklahoma responded when Mark Mandlik and Baptiste Anselmo bested Tin Chen and Alex Wesbrooks 6-3 on court one. Louisville clinched the doubles point after Sergio Hernandez and Matthew Fung outlasted Nathan Han and Jordan Hasson 6-4 at the No. 3 spot to give the Cardinals an early 1-0 lead.
In singles, Hernandez quickly dispatched Schlageter 6-0, 6-2 to extend the Cards' lead to 2-0. Mandlik upset No. 94 Donnet 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 1 spot to get the Sooners on the board and Nathan Han outlasted David Mizrahi 6-4, 7-5 at the No. 6 spot to even the match at 2-2.
The Sooners jumped ahead 3-2 after Hotard held off Rodrigues in three sets 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. Hasson defeated Chen 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 to clinch the 4-2 win and advance Oklahoma into the second round.
"I am so proud of the year we had. The guys competed hard the entire year and I am disappointed for them to finish it this way," said head coach Rodrigo da Silva. "We are going to miss our seniors Tin and Josh but now it is time work harder and keep building on the foundation that they built."
