
Gabriela Leon and Synclair Savage Win ACC Titles on Day One of ACC Outdoor Championships

DURHAM, N.C. – Gabriela Leon and Synclair Savage secured a pair of titles to lead four podium finishes on day one of the 2022 ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Duke's Morris Williams Stadium Thursday in Durham, N.C.
Leon cleared a height of 4.50m (14-9) to earn her second straight outdoor title as the Cardinals placed three in the top-five in the women's pole vault. The first-place bar is the fourth-highest of Leon's career. Aliyah Welter joined her teammate on the podium with third-place mark of 4.19m (13-9), while Auriane Viola posted 4.09m (13-5) for fifth and second-team honors.

Savage recorded a mark of 6.65m (21-10) to secure the women's outdoor long jump title. Entering the weekend, Savage's first-place finish ranks eighth nationally. Brooke Weimer registered a second-attempt of 6.09m (19-11.75) for fifth and Ariel Lawrence added to the women's team score with a personal-best mark of 6.02m (19-9) for seventh.

Jeremiah Willis was the first Cardinal to medal after the redshirt sophomore cleared a mark of 7.90m (25-11) on his fifth attempt to finish third and earn first-team honors in the men's long jump.

Katie Martin won her heat with the second-fastest preliminary time of 58.99 seconds to qualify for the finals in the women's 400-meter hurdles. Paul Kallenberg established a point total of 3789 to stand in fourth through the first five events of the men's decathlon.

Erik Fertig posted the first points of the afternoon for Louisville with an eighth-place finish of 59.85m (196-4) in the men's hammer throw.

The women currently lead the team standings after the first day of competition with 35.5 points, while the men are in fifth with seven.
Kallenberg kicks off competition on Friday with the men's decathlon at 11:00 p.m. ET. Action for the Cardinals open in the field with the men's shot put at 3:00 p.m. ET and on the track with the women's 400-meter preliminaries at 6:40 p.m. ET.
