Louisville continues to make progress as ACCs approach
BELLEVILLE, Mich. -- The University of Louisville rowing team completed their final event prior to the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships when the Cards took on No. 5 Michigan at Belleville Lake.
Â
Racing head-to-head across four events, the Cardinals were tested by the nationally ranked Wolverines. Morning rain lightened up for cloudy skies and calm waters by race time. Crews experienced sections of small chop but the water was relatively smooth with five-to-eight mile per hour headwinds. Â Temperatures were in the low 50s by morning's end.
Â
The coxswain of the V4+ boat, Izzy Hussey said, "I think this race was a great opportunity for us to line up against a highly ranked team and give our all, especially with our conference championship coming up very soon. We now have a better idea of where we stand margin wise coming into ACCs and I am proud of this team for putting everything out on the water today. This weekend was definitely an effective way to prepare ourselves for some exciting racing coming up in just two short weeks."
Â
The Cards V8 boat posted a time of 6:57.22 with the 2V8+ clocking in at 7:03.78. The V4+ boat boarded a time of 7:47.45 and the 3V8+ went 7:20.56.
Â
Isabella Ulloa of the 2V8+ boat said, "We wanted to go into this weekend racing like we have been the last couple weeks and that's exactly what we did. We carried the intensity over from last week and I'm excited to see it only grow in the next races."
