
Cards Power Past Clemson in ACC Quarterfinal

Rome, Ga. — The University of Louisville men's tennis team powered past Clemson 4-1 in the quarterfinal of the ACC Tennis Championship on Friday afternoon at the Rome Tennis Center.
The No. 4 seed in the ACC, Louisville improves to 19-7 (9-3 ACC) and advance to their first ACC semifinal since joining the conference in 2014-15.
Clemson struck first, winning 6-3 on court 1. The Tigers clinched the doubles point after outlasting Louisville 6-4 at the No. 3 spot to take an early 1-0 lead.
In singles, No. 101 Etienne Donnet defeated Ryuhei Azuma 6-3, 6-2 to get the Cards on the board and tie the match at 1-1. Matthew Fung bested Maxwell Smith 7-5, 6-4 at the No. 6 spot and David Mizrahi rallied to defeat Daniel Labrador 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 5 spot. Natan Rodrigues outlasted Spencer Whitaker 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 on court five to clinch the 4-1 win for Louisville.
"I am so proud of how resilient this group is. We had some adversity this week and we also had to fight back after losing doubles," said head coach Rodrigo da Silva. "I'm very happy to get into the next round of the ACC but we have more work to do."
Up next, Louisville will face top-seeded Virginia in the semifinal on Saturday at 10 a.m on ACCNX. Virginia defeated Florida State 4-0 in the ACC quarterfinals.
