Cardinals Complete Final Session at Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational
March 20, 2022 | Rowing
OAK RIDGE, Tenn. -- The University of Louisville Rowing Team completed its final session of racing at 10th Annual Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational at the Melton Lake Rowing Venue in Oak Ridge, Tenn. on Sunday March 20.Â
"This weekend was incredibly important and impactful from our team, said coxswain Rosie Devine. "We have worked so hard the past two years to build a team that not only is fast enough to be in the mix but believes they should be in the mix. This weekend has taught us that we deserve to be here and be a part of the conversation. We are only going to get faster from here because we believe in ourselves and in this team."
Â
The V8 boat was first in the water and posted a 6:33.270 to finish third just less than four seconds behind winner Clemson. The V4 boat was second in its race with a 7:23.195 beating Clemson and Tulsa. The 2V8 board turned in a 6:47.026 to finish third and the 2V4 boat went 8:07.668.
"It was good to be back in the mix with other boats and vying for seats during the whole race. I'm excited to see how we build off our success the rest of the season," said sophomore Evey Peplowski.
Â
The Cardinals faced an 11-team field that featured four top 25 teams, four teams receiving votes and three ACC foes. No. 16 Alabama, RV Clemson, No. 14 Duke, Louisville, RV Navy, RV Notre Dame, No. 20 Tennessee, Tulsa, No. 17 Wisconsin, No. 11 Yale have raced against the Cardinals.
"Overall, our team saw major growth in our speed and confidence this weekend," said Katie Beiler, a senior from Sarasota, Fla. "From the results of the small wins, it is evident that our program is in the mix and hungry for more. As a senior, I have never seen our team more prepared for the spring season. We are only flying up from here."Â
