LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's tennis team defeated Purdue 7-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
Natan Rodrigues and Matthew Fung defeated Michal Wozniak and Piotr Galus 6-3 on court one to start the match off strong for the Cardinals. Tin Chen and Sergio Hernandez outlasted Sebastian Welch and Tomasz Dudek 6-4 to clinch the doubles point for Louisville.
In singles, Josh Howard-Tripp kept the momentum going for Louisville, defeating Welch 6-2, 6-2. Etienne Donnet and Chen won both of their matches 6-3, 6-3 to push Louisville's lead to 4-0. The Cardinals would win the remaining singles matches to clinch the 7-0 victory.
"It was a good day for us, we competed at a high level. It was also great to have a bunch of our fans here. Our guys really enjoy playing in front of the crowd," assistant coach Mario Rincon said. "There are a lot of good things to take away from this match. Natan (Rodrigues) had an opportunity to play the last match on court and as a freshman, that's very valuable. He beat a really good player and it was a good experience for us."
Up next, Louisville hosts Indiana on Saturday at noon in the first match of a doubleheader. The Cardinals will face off against Xavier at 5 p.m. in the second match.
