RV/RV Cardinals Return Home to Host Syracuse
December 28, 2022 | Women's Basketball
This will be the Cardinals first home game in over three weeks
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The RV/RV Louisville women's basketball team is back home for its first home game since Dec. 6 when they host the Syracuse Orange on Thursday, December 29. The Cardinals and Orange will square off at the KFC Yum! Center at 7 p.m. ET and will be streamed on the ACC Network Extra. The Orange and Cardinals both carry a five-game winning streak into the game.
The Cardinals are hosting a fundraiser for Pediatric Cancer for Thursday's night game against the Orange. Coach Walz has accepted the Dick Vitale Coaches Club Challenge for Kids Battling Cancer and is committed to raising $20,000 to benefit the Dick Vitale Fund for Pediatric Cancer at the V Foundation. If able, please help him in the fight against Pediatric cancer and donate through this link.
There will also be a halftime teddy bear toss at the game. Fans who bring a teddy bear to toss onto the court at halftime will receive a $5 ticket voucher for the next home game vs Georgia Tech on January 5 at all arena entrances. Bears collected will be donated to Ardi's Bears who will distribute to children in need around the greater Louisville area.
The Cardinals current five game winning streak began at their last home game on Dec. 6 against SIUE. During the win streak, Louisville has scored 70 or more points in each of the five games. They have shot the ball very well as they have hit 50 percent or more from the field and 50 percent or more from behind the arc in three of those five games. The Cardinals have yet to trail in any of the five games during the winning streak.
In their most recent game before the holiday break, the Cardinals won 81-67 at DePaul and Chrislyn Carr was the catalyst in the Cards win. She led the team with 21 points, the most she has scored since she came to Louisville, and set a career high with 17 rebounds. It was the most rebounds by a Louisville player since the 2017-18 season and no other guard has had more rebounds in a game in program history. The 17 rebounds were the second-most by a guard in the NCAA in a single game this season. Carr earned ACC Player of the Week honors for her performance at DePaul.

ABOUT THE ORANGE
Syracuse enters Thursday's matchup with a 10-2 record this season and are 1-0 in ACC play. They are under the helm of first year head coach Felisha Legette-Jack as she comes to the Orange from Buffalo where former Cardinal Becky Burke currently coaches. Legette-Jack was a graduate of Syracuse and an All-American during her playing days with the Orange. Syracuse is winners of five-straight since Dec. 4, including their ACC opener against Wake Forest on Dec. 18. Buffalo transfer Dyashia Fair leads the Orange with 19.6 points per game and she also has a team-high 4.2 assists. Her 19.6 points per game ranks third in the ACC, just behind Hailey Van Lith at 19.8. Dariauna Lewis leads the Orange with 9.9 rebounds per game and is one of four players to average in double figures with 10.3 points per game.
Series History - This will be the 25th meeting all time between the two schools as the series dates back to the 1986-87 season. Louisville holds the all-time series lead 17-7 and are 10-1 in games played in Louisville. The Cardinals have won five-straight games over the Orange and they have won the last seven-consecutive games played in Louisville. The Cardinals are undefeated against the Orange at the KFC Yum! Center since the arena opened in the 2010-11 season.
Last Meeting (Feb. 6, 2022) - Liz Dixon scored a season-high 18 points and Kianna Smith had 16, helping No. 4 Louisville beat Syracuse 100-64 on Sunday. Louisville (21-2, 11-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) has won six straight since a 68-59 loss at then-No. 4 North Carolina State in late January. Syracuse (9-12, 2-9) has stumbled since a six-game win streak that included a victory over Ohio State, dropping eight of nine. The teams also met in mid-January, and the game was tied with under 6 minutes to play before Kianna Smith hit a 3-pointer to send the Cardinals on a deciding 15-4 spurt for an 84-71 victory. This one wasn't as close. Louisville grabbed control with a big first quarter and pulled away during a strong second half. Ahlana Smith had 13 points, and Chelsie Hall and Emily Engstler each finished with 11. Syracuse fell behind 14-4 in the first six minutes, and it was an uphill struggle from there as the Cardinals dominated the boards and spread the ball around. Hall made a layup and a 3-pointer from the left wing, and Kianna Smith followed with another 3 for the 10-point lead. The Cardinals finished the first quarter up 30-17, outrebounding the Orange 15-5 and racking up 11 assists on 12 baskets. They finished with a 55-26 edge on the boards and shot 53.2%.
