This will be the third-straight game against a 2022 NCAA Tournament team
PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas — The No. 6/4 Louisville Cardinals are down in the Bahamas and set to kick off the Bad Boy Mowers Women's Battle 4 Atlantis with a rematch from the 2022 NCAA Tournament. The Cardinals opening round game will be against the Gonzaga Bulldogs, the same team the Cardinals beat in the second round last season. The game is the fourth of four games on the day and set for 7:30 p.m. tip and will be streamed on FloHoops (subscription required).
Louisville enters the tournament 3-0 after winning all three of their games during the opening week of the season. Hailey Van Lith has led the way for the Cardinals as she has averaged a team-best 21.7 points per game to begin the season. She has scored 20-plus points in two of the three games and dating back to last season, she has scored 20-plus points in eight of her previous 12 games.
Olivia Cochran recorded her sixth career double-double in the road win over Belmont on Sunday. She tallied a team-high 13 rebounds to go along with her 13 points to help secure the road win for the Cardinals. Cochran leads the team with 9.0 rebounds per game and is second on the squad in scoring with 9.3 points. The Cardinals have four players averaging eight or more points per game to start the year with Chrislyn Carr at 9.0 and Morgan Jones at 8.3 points per game.
Saturday's matchup in the Battle 4 Atlantis will pit two of the most successful programs in college basketball since the start of the 2017-18 season. The Cardinals rank third in the NCAA with 154 wins over the past six seasons and Gonzaga ranks eighth with 137. In terms of winning percentage, Louisville is fourth with a .885 mark (154-20) and Gonzaga is sixth with a .846 mark (137-25).
This is the first non-conference tournament for the Cardinals since 2019-20 when they participated in the Paradise Jam in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Louisville went three-for-three to claim the tournament championship and defeated the top-ranked Oregon Ducks in the championship game, 72-62. That was the last time the Cardinals have taken down the No. 1 team in the country.
The team's result against Gonzaga will determine the time and opponent the Cardinals face on Sunday for the second day of the tournament. If the Cardinals win, they will play at 2:30 p.m. ET on Sunday against the winner of Texas and Marquette. If the Cardinals fall in the opener, they will play the loser of UT/MU at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday.

ABOUT THE BULLDOGS
Gonzaga is the third-straight NCAA opponent the Cardinals will face and the second-straight that advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Gonzaga went 27-7 last season and finished conference play with a 15-2 record. They knocked off the top-seeded and No. 15 BYU to clinch the West Coast Conference Tournament Championship. They defeated No. 8 seed Nebraska in the NCAA first round before falling to the Cardinals in the Round of 32. They are 3-0 so far this season and are coming off a road win over Wyoming on Tuesday. The Zags are led by junior forward Yvonne Ejim, who has averaged 21.3 points and 6.7 rebounds over the first three games.
Series History - The Cardinals will face off with Gonzaga for the fourth time in program history and the third all-time matchup at a neutral venue. The Cardinals are 2-1 all-time against Gonzaga and 1-1 on neutral courts. They dropped their first ever matchup between the two schools in the Sweet Sixteen of the 2011 NCAA Tournament. They met again the next season at the Hardwood Tournament of Hope in Puerto Vallarta. The Cardinals came away with a 55-42 win and ended up winning the tournament after defeating Oregon State in the championship game.
Last Meeting (Mar. 20, 2022) - Hailey Van Lith scored 21 points and Louisville advanced to the Sweet 16 after a 68-59 win over Gonzaga on Sunday night in the second round of the women's NCAA Tournament. Playing in front of a loud home crowd for the last time this season, the top-seeded Cardinals (27-4) jumped out to a 14-0 lead less than 4:30 into the game, thanks to a pressure defense that sped up the Bulldogs. The Zags (27-7) not only weathered the storm but also answered with a 12-0 run of their own. Van Lith, a Washington state native, would not be denied. The sophomore guard scored eight straight points in 1:45 stretch of the third quarter that started a 15-3 run. She would cap that spurt with two more free throws to make it 51-33 with 3:00 left in the period. Gonzaga (27-7) never got back within eight points the rest of the way. With the win Louisville finished the season with a 16-0 home record, the first time they have gone undefeated at home since the KFC Yum! Center opened in 2010.
