Rowing Closes Out Fall with Strong Showing at Rivanna Romp
November 13, 2022 | Rowing
EARLYSVILLE, Va. -- The University of Louisville rowing team has completed their fall schedule by competing in the Rivanna Romp, Sunday, Nov. 13, on the Rivanna Reservoir in Earlysville, Va.
"I was really happy with the way our newest Cardinal rowers stepped up to the challenge of a very competitive field at the Rivanna Romp," said assistant coach Ed Oxlade. "They showed an ability to raise the game on race day and gave an authentic account of themselves. We will need to continue to work hard, learn and build upon these first two and a half months to have the impact we intend to have in the spring. They have had a good taste of competition this fall and are hungry for more. I can't wait to help them continue to develop over the winter months into the fierce racers they show they have the potential to be"
The Cardinal Varsity 8 boat turned in a time of 13:37.9 for seventh in the 20-boat field. The 2V8 boat stroked a 13:57.5 to finish in 12th in the 20-boat field.
Â
"Overall, the team had a good day. It was exciting way to end out the fall and see how much we have progressed during the season. I am even more excited to see how we can develop through the spring," said senior V8 coxswain Ellee Grosser.
Â
The Freshman novice Varsity 8 stroked a 15:42.2 in the novice race for sixth place.
Â
"I am so proud of the whole team today, all of the work that was done this fall showed and I am just so glad to be part of this team," said freshman novice Gabbie Thomas of the NV8 boat.
Â
Louisville had five Varsity Four boats in the water for the Cardinals. The V4 boat finished fifth with a time of 14:49.5 in a tightly-bunched top five.
Â
"Everyone has been working super hard this season and I think today was a good day to show it. I am really proud of how we did today and how we executed each race," said freshman Claire Carver-Ritter of the V4 boat.
Â
The 2V8 boat cruised in at 15:11.5 for 11th place just seconds ahead of their teammates in the 3V8 boat that turned in a 15:14.9 time for 12th. The 4V4 boat came in at 15:24.2 for 16th in the 28 boat field. And the 5v4 boat was 27th with a time of 16:22.3.
