Cardinals Wrap Up Day 1 at John Cade Invitational

STARKVILLE, Miss. – The University of Louisville women's tennis team picked up five wins against Mississippi State on the first day of the John Cade Invitational hosted by Mississippi State in Starkville, Miss.

The Cardinals opened tournament play Friday morning in doubles against Mississippi State. The duo of Rhea Verma and Arielle Nealy picked up UofL's only doubles win of the match, beating Emily Surcey and Dharani Niroshan 8-6. Tyra Richardson and Sasha Gorchanyuk fell to Alexandra Mikhailuk and Maria Rizzolo 8-4. Jamilah Snells and Cici Xin lost to Emmanouela Antonaki and Gia Cohen 8-7 (8-6).

UofL finished 2-1 against Memphis in doubles. Snells and Xin beat Emily Meyer and Aran Teixido-Garcia 8-5. Nealy and Verma beat Carlota Farres Carreter and Miriam Grosmann 8-3. Gorchanyuk and Richardson fell to Camila Soares and Monique Woog 8-4.

Gorchanyuk, the lone singles win against Mississippi State, beat Madelyn Bemisderfer 1-6, 6-4, 6-4. Verma fell to Emmanouela Antonaki 6-3, 6-4. Snells fell to Gia Cohen 6-3, 6-0. Xin fell to Alexandra Mikhailuk 1-6, 6-4, 6-0. Joy Callwood fell to Emily Surcey 6-2, 6-1. Richardson fell Dharani Niroshan 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-3).
