Cardinals Advance in Singles at ITA Regional

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Three Cardinals competed in the qualifying draws of with all advancing to the next round of the ITA Regional Singles Tournament held on the campus of the University of Tennessee.

In singles, No. 17-seeded Cici Xin won the first round against Daniela Hernandez from EKU 6-3, 6-2 before falling to No. 4-seeded Lidia Gonzalez from the University of Kentucky 6-4, 6-3.

Rhea Verma, who is seeded No. 3, defeated Naomi Von Bose from Tennessee State University 6-1, 6-2. Verma then beat Kelli Niehaus from the University of Cincinnati 6-2, 6-1.

No. 7-seeded Maria Campos won the first round against Ashlee Fisk of WKU 7-5, 6-3. Campos then defeated Sara Zalukar from Miami University 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.

In doubles, the No. 2-seeded pair of Verma and Campos defeated Sofiia Paladi and Anait Arutiunian from Lipscomb 8-3. The duo plays Thursday, Oct. 20 at 10:00 a.m. ET. They will also compete in singles.
