Cards took doubles point

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The University of Louisville men's tennis team fell 4-1 to No. 13 Wake Forest to extend the Deacon's ACC unbeaten streak to 23 matches on Sunday afternoon in Winston-Salem.

With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 4-3 (0-2, ACC) on the year, while the Demon Deacons improve to 8-2 (2-0, ACC) and remain undefeated in conference play.

Louisville took the doubles point early when UofL's Alex Wesbrooks and Josh Howard-Tripp swung past Siddhant Banthia and Matthew Thomson 6-3 at No. 3. The Cards faltered when Fabien Salle and Matthew Fung fell 6-4 to No. 18-ranked Henri Squire and Eduardo Nava at the No. 1 slot, but the Cardinals clinched the doubles point when Tin Chen and Sergio Hernandez took down Taha Daadi and Adam Ambrozy 6-4 at No. 2.

However, the Deacons countered when WFU scored four straight singles points to win the match. No. 71-ranked Chen was defeated by Henri Squire 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1. Wesbrooks was dropped 6-0, 6-4 on court six to Rrezart Cungu. UofL's Fung fell to Melios Efstathiou 6-0, 6-4 at No. 5 and then Wake Forest clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 3 with Howard-Tripp falling to No. 107-ranked Taha Baadi.

Up Next: The Cardinals return home to face Notre Dame Thursday and Boston College Friday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. Both matches will begin at 4 p.m.
