LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville women's basketball opens the home portion of its schedule with games against Bellarmine on Tuesday and UT Martin on Wednesday. Both games will tip off at 7 p.m. ET and broadcast on ACC Network Extra.

Louisville head coach Jeff Walz is 12-2 in home openers at Louisville and the Cardinals have won five straight. The only losses are a 75-71 defeat to California on Nov. 15, 2015 and a 63-50 loss to No. 4 Tennessee on Nov. 12, 2010 to open the KFC Yum! Center.

Last season, they opened their season at home with a 101-58 win over Eastern Kentucky on Nov. 29, 2020.

The Cardinals are playing back-to-back regular season games for the second consecutive season. Last year, Louisville defeated Northern Kentucky 74-64 on Jan. 1, 2021 and followed that with a 97-46 win over Bellarmine on Jan. 2, 2021.

Against Arizona, Hailey Van Lith led the Cardinals with 19 points, while shooting 11-of-12 from stripe. It marked the most made free throws by a Cardinal since Mariya Moore went 12-of-16 in a 78-65 win at Georgia Tech on Jan. 3, 2016.

Bellarmine returns a significant portion of the team that went 5-17 in its inaugural DI season a year ago, including three incumbent starters in senior forwards Lauren Deel and Sheniqua Coatney and senior guard Kathleen Scott. Deel, a fifth-year senior, has appeared in over 100 games in her career and started for most of the previous three seasons. She won the league's Facebook fan vote for ASUN Preseason Player of the Year. Coatney led the team in rebounding (5.7) and field goal percentage (47.4) and ranked fourth in scoring (8.3).

After Bellarmine took the initial 5-2 lead, Louisville outscored the Knights 24-7 for the remainder of the first quarter to end the period with a 26-12 lead and cruised to a win. Cochran was a perfect 7-of-7 from the field. Cochran, along with Liz Dixon and Ramani Parker, combined to finish with 39 points on 17-of-18 shooting.

UT Martin is looking to replace over 70 percent of the team's scoring output after winning its second straight OVC regular season championship along with setting a conference and school record with a pair of postseason victories in the Women's National Invitation Tournament. With the departure of two-time OVC Player of the Year Chelsey Perry, they will look to Kyannah Grant, Paige Pipkin and Seygan Robins to take over leadership of an inexperienced team. Robins, a two-time OVC Newcomer of the Week last year and former UofL signee, ranks as the team's top returning scorer, averaging 7.7 points, 2.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game in her debut season.
