Tabor Lifts No. 3 Cards to Double OT Win Against No. 15 Wake Forest

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Mattie Tabor's goal with 3:37 left to play in double-overtime lifted the third-ranked University of Louisville field hockey team to a 2-1 win over No. 15 Wake Forest in an ACC matchup Friday evening at Trager Stadium.

After their second straight double overtime win, the Cardinals improve to 10-1 on the season and 3-0 in conference play while the Demon Deacons drop to 4-5 (1-2 ACC).

With the game knotted at 1-1 in the 77th minute of play, the Cardinals took advantage of their fourth penalty corner of the second OT. Julie Kouijzer's initial shot was blocked by a defender, but Tabor sent the rebound past Wake Forest goalkeeper Tori Glaister for her fifth game-winning goal of the season.

In the game, Louisville outshot Wake Forest 14-13 with the Demon Deacons owning a 9-6 advantage in shots on goal. The Cardinals held a 9-4 edge in penalty corners, six of which came in the overtime periods.

Freshman goalkeeper Mila de Kuijer collected a career-high eight saves as she improved to 10-1 on the season. Glaister finished the contest with four stops for Wake Forest.

The Demon Deacons took an early lead when Maggie Dickman tapped a long pass from Abby Carpenter into the cage in the third minute of the second quarter.

The Cardinals answered with under four minutes remaining in the third quarter when Katie Schneider deflected Kouijzer's penalty corner shot for her fifth goal of the season to even the score at 1-1.

Louisville will return to action on Monday, October 4, when Miami (Ohio) visits Trager Stadium.
