Louisville Makes History, Moves Up to No. 1 in AP Poll

The Cardinals are ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press poll for the first time in program history.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After opening the season with wins in its first 12 games, University of Louisville women's basketball made history on Monday afternoon when they moved up to No. 1 in the latest Associated Press poll.
It marks the first time in program history that the Cardinals have been ranked No. 1 in the AP poll.
"It's a great honor," head coach Jeff Walz said. "Obviously it doesn't do you anything come March, but it's something that we're proud of, because we have sustained something here for 14 years. It's been a lot of hard work and we've had a lot of great players and a great staff. And not only do we win some ballgames, but I think we win our community, we win in public. Our players are wonderful young women that represent our athletic department to the fullest."
The Cardinals held steady at No. 2 in the AP poll the last six weeks, which marked the most consecutive weeks they had been No. 2 in program history.
On Sunday afternoon, Louisville defeated Florida State 84-56 to move to 12-0 on the year, while last week's No. 1 team Stanford fell 77-72 in overtime at Colorado, to open up the No. 1 spot in the poll.
The Cardinals host Syracuse on Thursday at 9 p.m. ET and then travel to play at Wake Forest on Sunday.
