Purcell is one of 50 collegiate coaches across men’s and women’s basketball to join the initiative.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville women's basketball associate coach Sam Purcell has joined Coaches 4 Change, an organization founded by college basketball coaches from across the United States.
Coaches 4 Change provides a platform that engages, educates, empowers and evolves the young voter on yesterday's and today's issues of social injustice, systemic racism and the power of voting.
"I'm excited to work with Coaches 4 Change as we listen, challenge and share ideas with several coaches to help create a platform for student-athletes," said Purcell. "I'm extremely thankful for this opportunity as it will help me become a better husband, father and coach."
The four pillars of Coaches 4 Change include:
• ENGAGE our fellow coaches and student-athletes within our campus and local communities. To raise awareness and involvement in the endless pursuit for equality through voter registration.
• EDUCATE our fellow coaches and student athletes with historical information pertaining to systemic racism, social injustice, police brutality, and significant events that have shaped our country.
• EMPOWER our fellow coaches and student-athletes to inspire change through the power of voting.
• EVOLVE the minds of our fellow coaches and student-athletes to help foster positive changes within their collegiate and local communities surrounding the issues of racism & social injustice.
The organization includes 50 collegiate coaches across men's and women's basketball. For more information, visit www.coaches4change.org or on social media @Coaches4Change.
