Jazmine Jones Discusses Upcoming WNBA Draft
April 15, 2020 | Women's Basketball
Jones is expected to be selected in the 2020 WNBA Draft on Friday night.
LOUISVILLE, Ky – University of Louisville senior guard Jazmine Jones met with the media via teleconference Wednesday afternoon to discuss her future and the upcoming WNBA Draft, which takes place Friday night at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
Jones was named WBCA All-America honorable mention, All-ACC First Team, All-ACC Defensive Team and ACC All-Tournament Team in her final year and played more games at UofL than anyone else in program history. Along with Bionca Dunham, Jessica Laemmle and Kylee Shook, she was part of the winningest class in program history.
She now looks forward to the next step in her journey with the WNBA Draft around the corner.
"I'm very nervous, to say the least, but I am also excited," Jones said. "It's going to be a dream come true to possibly hear my name Friday, so I'm very excited."
The WNBA has always been the dream for Jones and the desire to play the game at the highest level keeps her motivated.
"I always thought about it as a kid growing up," she said. "Playing the game that you love and just getting better at the next level. It's always been a dream to play college basketball at the highest level and I did that. To further my basketball career, to possibly play in the WNBA, it's definitely going to be a dream come true."
Due to the circumstances regarding COVID-19, the draft will be online only and Jones' experience will be slightly differently than in past years. Â
"On Friday night, I will be in my room, on my couch watching it (the WNBA Draft)," said Jones. "I'm still in Louisville. I'm not back home with my family, so we are probably going to do a big family Zoom call and watch it together on the computer."
Jones has seen much success at UofL and has been rewarded for her work on both ends of the floor. Now she looks to bring that style to the WNBA.
"I can bring high energy and be a high-volume player with a motor," she added. "The versatility to defend ones, twos, threes, and maybe even fours. The passion that I bring every day and knowing that I am going to play both sides of the floor offensively and defensively."
