Louisville edged 4-3 by Irish
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's tennis team fell 4-3 to No. 15 Notre Dame on Sunday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
Â
With the loss, the Cardinals drop to 8-6 overall and 0-4 in ACC play while the Fighting Irish improve to 11-5 on the season and 3-2 in conference action.
Â
"We are in a tough stretch right now," said Mark Beckham, UofL head coach. "We played hard today, completely differently from yesterday's situation. We played a really good Notre Dame team, I feel like we put ourselves in position to win but Notre Dame seemed to pick up the three set matches. I have to give them credit. I can't be too upset with their performance we have to embrace being in tight matches. I think that will get us over the hump. I am disappointed but not upset."
Â
Louisville struck first in doubles with a win at No. 2 by Raven Neely and Maia Haumueller, who shut out Zoe Spence and Julia Lilien 6-0. UofL clinched the point when the No. 3 pair of Dina Chaika and Nikolina Jovic downed Bess Waldram and Zoe Taylor 6-2.
Â
UofL's Rhea Verma was the first to fall in singles, bowing out to Paige Freeman 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 just before her teammate Andrea Di Palma defeated Spence 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2.
Â
Notre Dame's Cameron Corse beat Neely 6-2, 7-5 at No. 1 before ND's Ally Bojczuk defeated Dina Chaika 7-6, 6-4 at No. 5.
Â
Lilien took down Jovic 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 while Haumueller bested Maeve Koscielski 7-6, 3-6, 6-5.
Â
The Cardinals travel to Chestnut Hill on Sunday, March 15 to take on Boston College at 10 a.m.
