Cardinals Set to Host Bowling Green and Northern Illinois

Louisville, Ky - The University of Louisville women's tennis team is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 15 at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Cardinals will face off against Bowling Green at 11 a.m. and Northern Illinois at 4 p.m.

The Cardinals split their two matches last weekend, defeating Lipscomb 5-2 in the first match of the weekend but are looking to bounce back after a tough loss to Furman on Sunday, Feb. 2. This was the Cards first loss on the season after starting the season 6-0. In doubles, Raven Neely and Maia Haumueller are off to a 7-0 start to the season. Andrea Di Palma and Rhea Verma are both 6-0 in singles play to start this season. Jelena Vujanic is also on a 5 game winning streak after losing her first singles match of the season, including a singles win against a formidable Furman squad.

Prior to their match against Chicago State, Northern Illinois is off to a 5-3 start to the 2020 season. Head coach Eric Burns is in his first season at the helm of NIU women's tennis, after previously being the head coach of men's and women's tennis at Wright State. He led the Raiders to two 20-win seasons and managed to reach the Horizon League championship in 2016 and 2017. Junior Lara Slisko and senior Brodie Walker were both named to the Academic all-MAC team in 2019.

Bowling Green is off to a 2-1 start to its 2020 season, with a 6-1 win over Cleveland State and a 5-2 win over Youngstown State. Junior Marta Bettinelli, seniors Ayumi Sasaki and Marharita-Sophia Tavpash were each named to the 2019 academic all-MAC team in 2019. Head coach Stephanie Dalmacio is in her fourth season at the helm of the Falcons.
