Cards snap five-match win streak

WACO, Texas – The University of Louisville men's tennis team fell 4-1 to No. 5 Baylor in the finals of the Intercollegiate Kick-Off Weekend Sunday evening at Baylor's Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center. The loss snaps the Cardinals' season-opening five match win streak.

The Bears (5-0) took the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. The duo of Finn Bass and Sebastian Nothhaft beat Louisville's David Mizrahi and Alex Wesbrooks 6-3 at No. 3. Baylor's 20^th ranked team of Constantin Frantzen and Sven Lah sealed the first point of the match with a 6-3 win over Sergio Hernandez and Fabien Salle at the one-spot.

In singles, Baylor added another point when Lah, No. 19 in the ITA singles rankings, defeated Hernandez 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2. Bass beat Mizrahi 6-0, 7-5 on court four to extend the lead to 3-0.

Salle put the Cardinals on the scoreboard with a 6-4, 6-4 win over No. 111 Ryan Dickerson at No. 3 to make the score 3-1.

The match was decided on court 6 where Nothhaft topped Clement Filho 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Louisville's No. 42 Tin Chen was leading No. 59 Mattias 7-6, 2-6, 1-0 on court one and Matthew Fung was traliing No. 95 Constantin Frantzen 6-2, 2-6, 4-5 at the No. 5 spot when the their matches were suspended.

The Cardinals (5-1) will return to action on Friday when they play host to Northwestern at 12 p.m. at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
