Louisville moves to 4-0 on the season

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's tennis defeated Austin Peay 4-0 Saturday evening at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The win completed a doubleheader sweep for the Cardinals who also posted a 4-3 win against No. 10 Virginia Saturday afternoon.

"I thought we played well, especially after an emotional win against Virginia earlier in the day," said UofL head coach Rodrigo da Silva. "I'm proud of the way out guys handled it, stayed focused, played hard and got the job done."

UofL (4-0) started the match by taking the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 3. Sophomores Sergio Hernandez and Fabien Salle gave the Cards an early edge with their 6-1 win over Austin Peay's Jacob Lorino and Christian Edison at the one-spot. On court three, freshman James Bell and sophomore David Mizarhi took down Thiago Nogueira and Oliver Andersson 6-2 to clinch the first point of the match.

Louisville went on to sweep the singles points in straight sets. Sophomore Alex Wesbrooks cruised passed the Governor's Thiago Nogueria with a 6-0, 6-1 decision. Clement Filho swept Austin Peay's Lorino in both sets 6-0. Shortly after, Matthew Fung clinched the match for the Cardinals with a 6-4, 6-0 win.

Up next, the Cardinals will hit the road for the first time this spring when they head to Waco, Texas for the ITA Kick-Off weekend to face New Mexico in the first round.
