Louisville improves to 2-0 on the season

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's tennis defeated Bellarmine 7-0 Sunday evening at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The win completed a doubleheader sweep for the Cardinals who also posted a 7-0 win against Dayton Sunday afternoon.

"I'm proud of how our guys played today," said UofL head coach Rodrigo da Silva. "It was a long day, but I thought we responded well. We look to build on this success as we prepare for Virginia and Austin Peay next weekend."

The Cards (2-0) started the match by taking the doubles point with wins at Nos. 2 and 3. Junior Tin Chen and freshman Matthew Fung jumped ahead early with a 6-0 decision against Eli Franks and Sam Rueff at the two-spot. Freshman James Bell and sophomore David Mizrahi secured the point by defeating Bellarmine's Noah Neuhauser and Emil Berglund 6-1 on court three.

Louisville went on to sweep singles in straight sets. Freshman Randy Wilson cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Franks at No. 5. Sophomore Sergio Hernandez followed quickly with a 6-0, 6-2 decision against Paul Reynolds. Bell clinched the win on court six where he beat Joseph Naville 6-0, 6-1 to make the score 4-0.

The Cards kept the momentum with senior Clement Filho's 6-0, 6-0 win over Sam Rueff at No. 4. Chen gave UofL a 6-0 lead when he defeated Evan Bottorff 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 1 seed. Sophomore Fabien Salle wrapped up play, defeating Sam Rueff 6-0, 6-0 on court three.

Louisville will return to action on Saturday when the Cards play host to No. 10 Virginia in their ACC opener at 12 p.m. and follow with a 4:30 p.m. match against Austin Peay.
