
Cardinals Head to IU Invitational

The University of Louisville women's tennis team will compete in their second fall invitational this season as the Cardinals will be traveling to Bloomington, Ind. to compete at the Hoosier Classic.

The event will last three days, starting Friday, Sept. 27 and ending on Sunday, Sept. 29. The matches will be hosted at the IU Varsity Tennis Courts. Matches will begin on Friday at 10 a.m. with one round of singles and continuing play at 2:30 p.m. with doubles. Saturday will feature singles at 10 a.m. and doubles at 2:30 p.m. Sunday will feature just one round of singles beginning at 10 .m. Â

The Cardinals will face opponents from Indiana, Western Michigan, Xavier, Wright State, Cincinnati, Marquette, Miami (OH), Bowling Green, and Middle Tennessee.
In Louisville's first fall invitational, Diana Wong, Rhea Verma, Jelena Vujanic each won their bracket in singles. The doubles pair of Maia Haumuller and Rhea Verma won their bracket and senior Raven Neely and junior Nikolina Jovic advanced to finals in their bracket at the Purdue Invitational but chose not to play each other. Â

Host Indiana is coming off of a 16-11 season where they lost in the first round of the Big Ten tournament. Junior Michelle McKamey was named Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree for Indiana while winning 21 solo matches and 8 duos matches last season.

Xavier is coming off of a 22-3 season while losing in the Big Easy championship final. Junior Ahmeir Kyle earned first team all-Big East honors while now sophomore Emily Thomas was named Freshman of the year in 2018-19.

Miami (OH) won the MAC conference championship behind, now a sophomore, Brindtha Ramasamy who finished with a 14-6 singles record. She was named MAC newcomer of the year and First Team all-MAC.
