Three Boats Advance to Grand Finals at ACC Championship

All three varsity eight crews qualify for Saturday's finals
CLEMSON, S.C. – Highlighted by the showings of their varsity eight boats, the University of Louisville rowing team opened competition with preliminary racing at the 2019 ACC Rowing Championship Friday evening at Lake Hartwell.
The varsity eight, second varsity eight and third varsity eight boats each finished third in their heats, qualifying for the grand final in each flight. The varsity four and second varsity four placed fourth in their preliminary races and will compete in the petite finals on Saturday morning.
The V8+ kept a steady pace throughout their heat, finishing behind Duke and Syracuse with a time of 6:38.576 that placed sixth overall. It was a similar result for the 2V8+, whose time of 6:44.067 also finished sixth overall and behind the Blue Devils and Orange in the heat. In the opening race of the evening, the 3V8+ battled with Notre Dame for second place throughout before eventually finishing third with a time of 6:54.067 that was fifth among qualifying crews.
Both of the four boats posted great battles in their respective races, narrowly missing out on qualification for the grand final. In the V4+, the Cards overcame a tough start and nearly made up on ground on Miami, but they eventually placed fourth with a time of 7:31.124. The 2V4+ remained close with Boston College through its race before coming in fourth with a mark of 7:41.883.
Louisville's action on Saturday morning begins with the 3V8+ grand final at 8:15 a.m., followed shortly by the 2V4+ petite final at 8:30 a.m. The V4+ races in the petite at 8:55 a.m. before wrapping up with 2V8+ grand final at 9:30 a.m. and V8+ grand final at 9:55 a.m. The school with the highest point total following the races will be crowned ACC Champion, while the conference's coaches will select the All-ACC Team, ACC Coach of the Year and ACC Freshman of the Year.
ACC Network Extra will begin at 8 a.m. and last until 10 a.m. on Saturday, with Jerry Massey and Steve Pritzker on the call. Live results will also be available online at HereNow.com. A full recap of Saturday's action will be available on GoCards.com following the conclusion of competition.
