Funke and Melton Earn Academic All-District Honors

Senior Sidney Melton and junior Celene Funke eligible for Academic All-America honors
The University of Louisville's Celene Funke and Sidney Melton have been named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Softball Team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Both are now eligible for Academic All-America® consideration which recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

To be nominated for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00 and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution.
Funke (Carmel, Ind.) takes home her second straight Academic All-District honors. The junior carries a 4.0 GPA in finance and will earn her degree in May 2019. She leads the team with 46 runs and stands second with a .330 batting average and 27 stolen bases. Additionally, the speedy centerfielder leads the nation and holds Louisville's single-season record with 12 triples.

Funke was named a Google Cloud Academic All-District® All-American in 2018.
Melton, a senior from Columbus, Ohio also picks her second Academic All-District honor after earning the award in 2016. The third baseman carries a 3.92 GPA in exercise science and is set to graduate in May 2019. The two-time all-ACC selection leads the team with a .341 batting average and a school-record 33 stolen bases. She also stands second on the squad with 43 runs and third with a career-best 32 RBIs.
