Cardinals Down Pitt in ACC Opener

Louisville wins 7-0 and remains unbeaten
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's tennis team opened ACC play Sunday afternoon with a 7-0 sweep of Pittsburgh at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
"ACC wins are hard to come by and today we played the best tennis we have played the entire year," said Mark Beckham, UofL head coach. "I couldn't have written it any better than that. If I had to choose a date to play our best tennis, I would have picked today to set the tone."

The Cardinals won No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to clinch the doubles point. Raven Neely and Nikolina Jovic defeated Gabriela Rezende and Claudia Bartolome 6-2 at No. 1 while Sena Suswam and Diana Wong beat Natsumi Okamoto and Luisa Varon 6-3 at No. 2.
"We had good energy with doubles today," said Beckham. "Our doubles has not been quite where I want us to be so I made some slight changes and they worked out so I need them to stick with it and grow as a team, so that we have a chance to win that point every match. I feel good now and we are in good shape."
Chloe Hamlin captured the first singles point for Louisville, overtaking M. Perez Noguera 6-4, 6-0 at No. 5. At No. 6, Wong got the better of Okamoto 6-2, 6-3. Despite falling early in the first set, Jovic came back to defeat Camila Moreno 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4. Neely won over Rezende at No. 3 6-3, 7-5.

At No. 2, Suswam overpowered Varon, 7-5, 6-0. To wrap things up, Aleksandra Mally prevailed over Bartolome 6-2, 3-6, 10-7.

The Cardinals stay unbeaten at 9-0, and will travel to Lincoln, Neb. to take on Nebraska on Friday, Feb. 15.
