December 02, 2019 | Women's Basketball
Louisville moves up six spots in the poll after downing No. 1 Oregon and winning the Paradise Jam.
The Cardinals (8-0) jumped six spots after winning all three games in the Virgin Islands and claiming the Paradise Jam Island Division, while the Ducks fell to No. 3. Louisville received five first-place votes.Â
It matches the highest ranking in program history. Four other times Louisville has been ranked second in the AP poll, three times last season and once in 2017-18.
Stanford moved up two spots to No. 1 after both Oregon and No. 2 Baylor lost on Saturday. It was only the third time since the Top 25 became a writers' poll before the 1994-95 season that the top two teams lost on the same day.
Stanford received 23 of 30 first-place votes from the national media panel on Monday. The team was last No. 1 for six weeks in 2012.
Louisville finished November unscathed for the third consecutive season and are 22-0 in November over that span.Â
The win over Oregon marked the second against a No. 1 team in program history, the other an 82-81 victory over Baylor in the 2013 NCAA Regional Semifinal. Head coach Jeff Walz now has 11 wins over top five teams.
The Cardinals now set their sights on Thursday's matchup at Ohio State in the Big 10/ACC Challenge.
