Elizabeth Balogun Rated No. 23 in ESPNW Top 25 Players List
November 06, 2019 | Women's Basketball
Balogun opened the season with 15 points against Western Kentucky.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – ESPNW listed the top 25 players in the country and coming in at No. 23 is University of Louisville sophomore guard Elizabeth Balogun.
"In her one season at Georgia Tech, Balogun won ACC Freshman of the Year, yet somehow played largely under the national radar. That isn't likely to happen at Louisville. She instantly becomes one of the stars in a program that reached an Elite Eight and Final Four the past two seasons. One of the prize recruits in MaChelle Joseph's 16-year tenure with the Yellow Jackets, Balogun decided to transfer amidst the turmoil surrounding Joseph's dismissal and was given immediate eligibility. Twice Balogun scored more than 30 points as a freshman, and she averaged 1.6 SPG. She is the kind of two-way player who should fit well into Jeff Walz's system as the Cardinals attempt to replace three starters, including Asia Durr, the program's second-all-time leading scorer." - espnW
Balogun was named 2018-19 ACC Freshman of the Year following her lone season at Georgia Tech. She was named to the preseason All-ACC team this year.
She opened the season by scoring 15 points on 5-6 shooting from 3-point range against Western Kentucky.
In addition, ESPNWÂ picked Louisville seventh in its preseason poll.Â
After opening the season with a 75-56 win against Western Kentucky, the Cardinals host Murray State on Friday at 7 p.m.
