No. 24 Cardinals Fall to Top Ranked Cavaliers

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The 24th ranked University of Louisville men's soccer team had to play a man-down for a majority of its match against top-ranked Virginia Friday night (Oct. 4), as the Cardinals fell to the Cavaliers 2-0.

The Cards now sit at 5-3-2 on the season and 1-2-1 in ACC play.

UVA scored its first goal just over a minute into the game on a header off of a corner kick.
Â
The Cardinals would end up playing a man-down for most of the match after William Portman received his second yellow card of the game in the 21st minute, resulting in a red card and an ejection.
Â
Despite being a man-down, the Cards put a pair of shots on goal in the first 10 minutes of the second half, and another hit the cross bar on a free kick by Leonard Getz.

Kino Ryosuke put a header on target in the 70th minute that was just barely keep out of the net.

The Cavaliers added their second goal in the 71st minute on a breakaway.

Jake Gelnovatch finished his night with six saves in goal for the Cardinals. Cherif Dieye led all players with six shots, three of which were on goal.

Louisville returns to action one week from tonight, Friday, October 11, when the Cards travel to 6th ranked Clemson for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
