Junior Tin Chen becomes the first UofL player to win the Ohio Valley Regional championship in singles
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Louisville's Tin Chen defeated Indiana's Bennett Crane 6-0, 6-3 in the finals of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA)/Ohio Valley Regional Championship. With the win, the junior qualified for the Oracle ITA National Fall Championship which will be held November 6-10 at the Newport Beach Tennis Club in Newport Beach, Calif.
"Today was a really good match for me," said Chen, who is the first UofL men's tennis player to win the ITA/Ohio Valley Regional singles title. "It's been a really long week, and I appreciate my teammates and coaches who were here to support me during the tournament. I'm looking forward to representing Louisville in the nationals in California in two weeks."
Chen (Pintung, Taiwan) completed his run through the regional championship with a 7-0 record in singles with five wins coming in straight sets. He improves his record to 14-1 and, after opening the season with a loss at the Bobby Bayliss Invitational, has won his last 14 matches.
"I am very happy for Tin," said UofL head coach Rodrigo da Silva. "He has been working hard on and off the court. He has a positive attitude and is always ready to learn."
