Cardinals Finish Seventh at Head of the Charles Regatta
October 19, 2019 | Rowing
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The University of Louisville rowing team competed in the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta Saturday afternoon (Oct. 19), where the Cardinals finished seventh in the Women's Club Eights race.
Â
The Cards finished the three-mile (4,800 meter) event with a time of 16:56.989. UofL was sixth among NCAA schools, finishing ahead of ACC rival North Carolina by nearly 23 seconds. Yale was the top collegiate finisher with a time of 16:42.863, while the Potomac Boat Club was the top overall finisher in a time of 16:36.662.
Â
"This was the most composed that I have seen a Louisville crew race," head coach Derek Copeland said. "We can be proud of the transfer from our practice focus to race day, but we still could have performed better. We're still early in the season, so I am confident that we will continue to see improvement if we keep racing this way."
Â
Louisville's V8+ boat finished 36 second ahead of its time from the event a season ago. The Cardinals' boat was coxswained by junior Rosie Devine, and featured three upperclassmen in juniors Morgan Senogles, Violette Legrand and Jordan Kraski, along with sophomores Claudia Figueiredo, Mahalia Shand, McKenzie Sweeney, and a pair of freshmen in Caitlin Bentley and Sydney Paulus.
Â
The Cardinals next compete at the Head of the Hooch November 2 in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
