No. 4 Louisville Plays at No. 22 Florida State on Thursday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – No. 4 University of Louisville women's basketball plays at No. 22 Florida State (16-2, 4-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) on Thursday night at 7 p.m. ET.

Louisville (17-1, 5-1) enters the game on a three-game winning streak and they have held their opponent below 50 points in all three games. It marks the first time they have held opponents below 50 points in three straight games since they did so in mid-January of 2016 (vs. VT - W, 56-46; vs. Duke - W, 65-48; at UVA - W, 59-41). Prior to the last three games, they had held an opponent below 50 points just once (at UTC - W, 75-49).

After holding Georgia Tech to 44 points, Virginia to 43 points, and Wake Forest to 49 points, UofL's scoring defense has improved from 64.3 to 61.2 points per game and moved from 182 to 93 nationally.

In the last five games, UofL has forced 107 turnovers, good for 21.4 per game. They forced 26 turnovers at Wake Forest, 20 against Virginia, 21 against Georgia Tech and 24 at Duke.

UofL committed just six turnovers at Wake Forest. In the last two road games, they have 14 turnovers combined after committing just eight turnovers at Notre Dame. In five of last nine games, they have committed less than eight turnovers.

Arica Carter has scored in double figures in four of six ACC games and is averaging 12.7 points, while shooting 19-39 (.487) from downtown. In the win at Wake Forest, she knocked down three 3-pointers early and led the team with 12 points on 4-7 shooting from deep. Against Duke, she knocked down three 3-pointers in the first couple minutes to help the Cardinals jump out to an 11-2 lead. She finished the game with a career-high 23 points, while connecting on a career-high seven 3-pointers, going 7-10 from beyond the arc.

She ranks third on the team with 10.1 points per game and is shooting 40-86 (.459) from distance, which ranks second in the ACC and 16th in the country.

Jazmine Jones returns to her hometown of Tallahassee to face Florida State. She has started the last 57 games, which is the longest streak for the Cardinals. Last year, she started all 39 games, joining Myisha Hines-Allen as the only players to do so.

She had a career-high eight assists at Wake Forest.

ABOUT THE SEMINOLES

Florida State enters the game with a 16-2 record and they are 4-1 in the ACC. Their lone defeat in league play was a 57-45 loss to Clemson at home. Both of their losses have come at the Tucker Center as they also lost to LSU (L, 58-45) on Nov. 18. Three of their four ACC wins have come by less than four points with a four-point win vs. Duke (W, 66-62), a two-point win at Virginia (W, 63-61) and a one-point win at North Carolina (W, 64-63).

Florida State is giving up just 57.2 points per game, which ranks second in the ACC and 34th in the country. They rank second behind UofL with a +3.2 turnover margin and their +7.4 rebound margin ranks fourth. The Seminoles shoot just 28 percent from deep, which ranks last in the league.

Redshirt junior Kiah Gillespie, a transfer from Maryland, leads the Seminoles with 18.0 points, which ranks fourth in the ACC, and 9.5 rebounds, which ranks fourth in the league. She is the only player in the conference to rank in the top four in both categories. Sophomore Nicki Ekhomu (14.3) and junior Nausia Woolfolk (11.8) also score in double figures, while freshman Valencia Myers is averaging 9.4 points. Ekhomu ranks sixth in the ACC with 3.9 assists per game and seventh with a 1.8 assist-to-turnover ratio. Myers ranks fifth with 1.6 blocks per game.

Series History - UofL is 13-16 all-time against Florida State and 4-7 in Tallahassee. Louisville has lost two straight to the Seminoles and four of the last five, all since joining the ACC. Last season, Florida State handed the Cardinals their lone loss at the KFC Yum! Center with a 50-49 defeat on Jan. 21, 2018. Louisville fell 72-65 on Jan. 12, 2017 in their last matchup at FSU. The Cardinals lone win in the last five tries was a 79-69 win at the KFC Yum! Center on Jan. 1, 2016. Louisville's last win at Florida State was an 85-76 victory on Nov. 25, 2011.
