LOUISVILLE, Ky. – On the first day of competition at the Greater Cincinnati Collegiate Invitational in Mason, Ohio, the University of Louisville men's tennis team recorded two doubles and five singles victories. Newcomer David Mizrahi led the Cardinals with three wins in his collegiate debut.
"This is a great first tournament for the freshmen to play and see what college tennis is all about," said UofL assistant coach Jakob Gustafsson. "A lot of first time jitters today, so I expect our level to be higher tomorrow. I know they are up for the battle. The highlight of the day is having David be 3-0 in his first collegiate tournament."
The freshmen duo of Juan Paredes and David Mizrahi picked up their first collegiate victory over Northern Kentucky's doubles team of Jorge Rodriguez and Blaine Carr by a mark of 6-2. Fellow freshman Alex Wesbrooks and Fredrik Moe also earned a doubles victory, defeating Siena's Tomas Del Olmo and Guillermo Torres by a score of 6-3.
The Cards earned four wins in the first round of singles action. Despite falling 6-4 in the first set, Wesbrooks came from behind to win the final two sets over Case Western's Max Vicario 6-0, 10-3. Paredes won a tough battle over Siena's Matt Bellino by a mark of 7-5, 6-4, while Mizrahi registered a 6-4, 6-2 win over Sagar Bains of Siena.
