The FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup will take place in late September.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Senegal Basketball Federation announced that University of Louisville women's basketball senior forward Yacine Diop has been named to Senegal's 24-player preliminary squad for this year's FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup.
Diop is entering her first year with the Cardinals as a graduate transfer after starting all 93 games in her three years at Pittsburgh. She ranks 18th all-time in scoring at Pitt with 1,093 points.
As a senior, she led the Panthers in scoring (15.7 ppg) and rebounding (6.4 rpg) and four of her team-high seven double-doubles were against ACC opponents. She put up 24 double-figure scoring outings, including a seven-game streak to start the year and eight times scored 20 points or more. She was the only Panther to start and score in all 30 games.
Diop is joined on the international stage by senior guard Asia Durr, who is a member of the United States Women's Basketball National Team Pool.
The 2018 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup will take place in Tenerife, Spain from September 22-30.
The United States has won nine of the 17 World Cups, including titles in the previous two events (2010, 2014). Senegal is making its first appearance in the World Cup since 2010.
